Avenue of Flags

Avenue of Flags

At the Memorial Day Service, May 26, 1991, the “Avenue of Flags” were displayed for the first time in the Metamora Village Park on the square. Thirty-nine flags lined the front and sides of the park. Each flag is flown in honor of a veteran. The seventy-seven names of those who purchased flags were encased in a display stand on the south side of the park. The second shipment of flags did not arrived in time for the display.

This is still an active project of the Metamora Germantown Hills Junior Woman’s Club. As of April 2005, there have been two hundred one flags purchased. Weather permitting, they fly on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day. The flags are a beautiful addition to our park.
