Historic Valentine Collection Open House

February 12th and 19th - 1:00 to 3:30 pm

The Metamora Association for Historic Preservation has announced the Shirley Adams' Valentines Open House on Sunday, February 12 and 19 at the Stevenson House.  The house is located at 104 West Walnut Street one block south of the southwest corner of the square.  Doors will be open from 1 – 3:30 pm.

Shirley's collection of Valentines serve as a time capsule that reflects Americana and the style and mood of the country.  It includes of hundreds of Valentines that range from a 1908 box-type Valentine to newer ones that incorporate Chipcorder technology and music. Visitors will see how graphics have changed to reflect the era, but how much the message of loyalty and love has remained the same – except the messages on Necco conversation hearts!

Visitors will also see Valentines in Braille, Spanish, honeycomb fold-outs, Barbie and other themes, and even Valentines for pets.

The display includes the boxed Valentine that Shirley  received as a junior in High School in 1945 from her boyfriend, Joe, who she married 4 years later.

The public is cordially invited to stop in and let Shirley answer questions about her Valentine collection and the many other interesting displays in the Stevenson House.
